Course Description: The course aims at introducing the status quo of cognitive linguistics, including theories of leading cognitive linguists, such as cognitive semantics, cognitive grammar, metafunctions, and transitivity analysis, with an emphasis on metaphor theories, methodologies, researching metaphor in business discourse, and metaphor in translation studies. Objectives: To enable students to grasp basic theories and research methodology of cognitive linguistics; to familiarize students with the status quo of metaphor research at home and abroad; to enable students to research metaphor in various types of discourse with the latest theories and approaches; to enable students to know metaphor use in Chinese traditional cultures and Xi Jingping’s major works on the governance of China.
